1 de Maio de 2020 - concerto europeu na Filarmonia de Berlim

Ontem os filarmónicos voltaram à sua sala para darem um concerto. Não um concerto qualquer, claro - era o 30º Concerto Europeu. Devia ter tido lugar em Telavive, e o presidente da República da Alemanha estaria também presente.

Em vez disso, o presidente veio discursar à Filarmonia, e os músicos tocaram na sala sem público, sentados a uma considerável distância uns dos outros.

O concerto é transmitido hoje às sete da tarde (hora de Berlim) neste link.

O presidente da República, Walter Steinmeier, fez um discurso no qual lembrava os artistas que estão a passar dificuldades, e reafirmou que as artes são literalmente víveres para nós.

("Alimentos", em alemão, diz-se: "Lebensmittel" - à letra: meios de vida. A tradução inglesa optou por "food for the soul". Por sorte em português temos a palavra "víveres", que mantém a raíz Leben=vida da palavra alemã)

Parte do seu discurso:

We speak so many different languages on our continent and we have so many different ways of life. But we can only master the difficulties we all face today and in future if we stand together – and that is particularly true at the current time, which is so hard for all of us. Europe is our shared home – and it is virtually impossible to express this better than with music, this distinctive shared European language. Especially today, however, this gift presents us with a task. We have to help each other – and we will help each other. The musicians who will play for us today led by Kirill Petrenko represent more than themselves. When I thank them for the special concert they are performing for us today, I am also thinking of the many freelance artists, indeed our entire cultural life, that has once more been especially badly hit by this crisis. Many livelihoods are at risk. I very much hope that the help which has been provided will go where it is needed.
Art and culture which we can enjoy together are not expendable trivialities. Now more than ever, we see that art and culture are indeed food for the soul.
I am looking forward to what will certainly be a very special concert – and I am looking forward to a time when we can again listen to music together. All the best to you. And let’s look out for each other.
